Method
- Flying a UAS drone over the site daily required that our flight plans consist of a cross-grid flight path with an 80% and frontlap and 60% sidelap.
- These flight parameter specifications refer to the amount of overlap that will be in each individual image.
- The overlap of each image increases accuracy and resolution by increasing pixels which allows for extremely detailed maps of the job site.
-
Results
Our method can produced up to an average of +1500 photos per scan of an entire construction site, the number of photos varies on the size of the project. We upload this data for processing as soon as our flight missions have concluded, and have deliverables ready for our clients the following morning. Deliverables include:
- A high-resolution 2D map of the site area of focus during that phase with an accuracy within 5cm.
- A 3D high resolution rendering of the site, called a “point cloud, compatible with CAD software to assess accuracy of the “as-built” to the original design plans.
- High Resolution photos and videos of areas of particular interest to the construction project teams on that given day per their requests. -
Summary
We increase awareness of actual site progress and any significant delays or errors, which allows businesses to achieve improved communication and transparency across contractors and subcontractors. Which results in better planning, significant cost savings on rework.
From initial planning to post-project maintenance, aerial data collection enables leaders to make smarter decisions that enhance business outcomes.
